Sequential Ringing

Definition

A call-routing method that tries several destinations in a defined sequence.

How it works

The PBX tries destinations in a configured order, moving on after a timeout or another defined condition. Call handling rules determine the order of destinations, ringing time and fallback behaviour. The exact result depends on PBX configuration and whether endpoints are reachable.

Business example

If the first manager does not answer in time, the PBX tries the next manager and then an on-call contact.

What to consider

Test busy, no-answer and simultaneous-call cases. Assign responsibility for maintaining routing rules and provide a clear next step when the preferred destination is unavailable.
