Calls and collaboration on desktop and smartphone

Familiar Work Environment

What Is Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams brings together work chats, meetings, and file collaboration. Employees discuss tasks, find documents, and stay in project context both in the office and remotely.

The Team Works Together

Instead of separate email threads, teams can organize discussions by project and department. Messages, meetings, and shared materials help participants track changes and return to agreed decisions.

Telephony Complements Teams

Direct Routing connects Teams Phone to the telephone network. External incoming and outgoing calls using connected corporate numbers become available in the work app.

Collaboration

Business Platform Features

Chats and Discussions

Discuss projects in private and group chats. Organize work topics by teams and channels.

Shared Documents

Give colleagues access to files and work with up-to-date materials according to assigned permissions.

Video Meetings

Hold work meetings, share your screen, and discuss documents with meeting participants.

Work Apps

Use available Microsoft 365 integrations and office tools according to your subscription.

Project Updates

Find messages and updates in one workspace. This makes it easier for colleagues to follow the progress of discussions.

Access Management

Configure user permissions and organization policies. Data protection also depends on licenses and environment configuration.

Microsoft Teams and Microsoft 365 features depend on the organization’s subscription and settings. They are not separate telephony operator services.

Why Connect Telephony

Customers call the number.
Employees answer in Teams.

External Calls

Receive calls and dial phone numbers from the app with Teams Phone configured.

Call History

Return to call details whenever needed. Access to detailed records and recordings depends on the connected services and user permissions.

Work from Different Locations

An employee can use a supported app on a computer or smartphone with a suitable internet connection.

Telephone Network Integration

How Direct Routing Works

Direct Routing connects Microsoft Teams Phone to carrier telephony through a Session Border Controller (SBC).

01 · Work App

Microsoft Teams

The user receives or makes a call through Teams Phone.

02 · System Connection

SBC and Direct Routing

The SBC connects the telephony system with Microsoft Teams. In the service model, this component is managed by the provider.

03 · External Calling

Telephone Network

The call follows the agreed route to a connected company number or an external subscriber.

This is a simplified description of the connection. Specific numbers, routes, call policies, and compatibility will be agreed before launch.

Stream Telecom Service

Setup and Support
included with the connection

For Self-Managed Deployment

Direct Routing requires an SBC, compatibility checks, network configuration, and connection to the Microsoft 365 environment. After launch, the solution also requires ongoing support.

An SBC can be deployed in-house or provided as a service — purchasing your own device is not the only option.

With Direct Routing by Stream Telecom

  • Carrier-side connection and SBC as part of the service.
  • Design of the corporate-number connection architecture.
  • Configuration of agreed call routes.
  • Connection testing and solution support.

Working with Calls

Telephony Features for Your Team

When designing the solution, we determine which functions are handled in Teams and which are handled by the connected PBX or additional services.

Call Management

Transfer, hold, and forwarding features help route an inquiry to the right employee.

Menus and Routing

We will agree on the voice menu, queues, and call handling by department and business hours.

Call Recording

If call recording is required for quality control or training, we will separately select the appropriate recording, storage, and access solution.

Reporting and Quality

We will determine the required level of detail and call-monitoring tools for managers and administrators.

CRM Integration

We will discuss sending call information to your CRM. The available data and compatibility depend on the selected system.

Voicemail

Missed-call handling can be configured based on Teams Phone capabilities and the organization’s configured policies.

Recording, CRM, analytics, and call-handling scenarios are not automatically included when Direct Routing is connected. The feature set is defined in the proposal.

Practical Use Cases

Who Telephony in Teams Is For

Sales Teams

A manager discusses a task with colleagues and contacts the customer from the work app. Call recording and CRM can be added when required.

Support Teams

Incoming inquiries can be distributed according to agreed scenarios and transferred to employees who can resolve the customer’s issue.

Remote Teams

The corporate number remains the business point of contact even when employees work from home, different offices, or different cities.

ANSWERS BEFORE CONNECTION

Frequently Asked Questions about Telephony in Microsoft Teams

Yes. After Teams Phone is connected to the telephone network and call routes are configured, calls to supported destinations are available. Available destinations and call pricing depend on the carrier service terms.

For a managed connection, Stream Telecom provides carrier infrastructure and support. Purchasing your own SBC is not required within the agreed service model.

The exact license set must be checked. Direct Routing users require Teams and Teams Phone. Not every Microsoft 365 subscription includes the necessary components.

Whether existing numbers can be connected depends on the operator and telephony architecture. Provide a list of numbers for verification and approval.

Call recording is not automatically included with Direct Routing. If required, we will agree on the appropriate service, call coverage, storage, and access rights.

This requirement is assessed during solution design. We need the CRM name, the required actions, and the data that must be transferred.

Use a supported Teams app, a corporate account, and a suitable internet connection. Available features depend on the device, licenses, and organization policies.

There is no single fixed price on the source page. The calculation includes Microsoft licenses, carrier services, users, numbers, setup, and additional features.

Stream Telecom support and maintenance terms are agreed in the proposal. Microsoft 365 environment administration and the division of responsibilities are discussed before connection.
