Calling Line Identification (CLI)

Definition

Information identifying the calling party's number as transmitted by the telephone network.

How it works

Calling line identity is supplied through signalling and may be restricted by carrier policy and anti-spoofing checks. Telephone numbering depends on national rules, carrier capabilities and the selected calling route. Customers benefit from consistent dialling formats and reliable number reachability.

Business example

A PBX receives caller identification and may match it to a customer record.

What to consider

Before deployment, verify geographical availability, permitted number formats, tariffs, caller-ID restrictions and both inbound and outbound calling behaviour.
