DID

Definition

DID (Direct Inward Dialling) lets an external telephone number route an incoming call directly to a specified employee, extension or department within a business phone system.

How it works

The operator delivers the dialled number to the PBX, which uses a matching rule to select the intended destination instead of a central receptionist.

Business example

A company assigns different public numbers to sales, support and regional branches, each with its own routing policy.

What to consider

DID does not require a physical line for each number. Confirm routing rules and the caller ID used for outbound calls.
