Round Robin

Definition

A method of distributing incoming calls among group members in a rotating order.

How it works

After each allocation, the rotation advances to the next member; whether unavailable agents are skipped depends on the PBX configuration. Call handling rules determine the order of destinations, ringing time and fallback behaviour. The exact result depends on PBX configuration and whether endpoints are reachable.

Business example

The PBX offers successive calls to different agents in turn and handles unavailable agents according to its routing settings.

What to consider

Test busy, no-answer and simultaneous-call cases. Assign responsibility for maintaining routing rules and provide a clear next step when the preferred destination is unavailable.
