Mobile Extension

Definition

A short corporate extension associated with an employee's mobile device or application.

How it works

A mobile worker gains a PBX extension; available functions depend on how the mobile service is integrated with the company PBX. Business mobility combines calling apps, phone numbers, devices and access policies. Availability depends on the mobile carrier, network and device configuration.

Business example

A colleague dials a manager's extension even when the manager is working away from the office.

What to consider

Review corporate-data security, off-site connectivity, operating-system restrictions and roaming or data charges before rolling out the feature.
