SMS Fallback

Definition

Using SMS as a backup when delivery through the preferred messaging channel is unavailable.

How it works

If a rich channel is unavailable, SMS can provide fallback delivery, but buttons and media may be lost. Rich messaging combines text, media and interactive actions. Available features vary across apps, countries, networks and recipient devices.

Business example

If RCS is unavailable, the system sends a short SMS under the configured policy and consent rules.

What to consider

Check device support, sender approval, channel availability and fallback arrangements. Not every recipient will see or interact with a message in the same way.
