Delivery Receipt (DLR)

Definition

A status report about message delivery returned by a network or messaging platform.

How it works

A delivery receipt reports a network or device delivery state where supported; it does not prove that the SMS was read. Mobile messages travel through carrier networks and messaging platforms. Channel, encoding, templates and route limits affect delivery, timing and cost.

Business example

A messaging system records delivered and failed statuses to review campaign performance.

What to consider

Before sending, check recipient consent, contact accuracy, character limits, delivery reporting and a convenient opt-out for marketing messages.
