Average Speed of Answer (ASA)

Definition

The average time callers wait before an agent answers, based on the defined set of calls.

How it works

ASA measures average queue waiting time before an agent answers; reporting rules for abandoned calls may differ. Contact-centre routing and performance metrics need to be interpreted against service targets, staffing levels and the complexity of incoming requests.

Business example

A supervisor compares morning and evening ASA to adjust staffing and reduce long waits.

What to consider

Agree on metric definitions and reporting periods. A single number without quality, repeat-contact and workload context can lead to misleading conclusions.
