PBX High Availability

Definition

The ability of a telephone system to remain available when some components fail.

How it works

High availability needs more than a standby server: SIP routing, state, data stores and upstream links must be tested. Protecting telephony and customer data combines technical controls, access rights and organisational processes. Different communication channels can require different safeguards.

Business example

A company uses redundant servers and routes to reduce downtime when its main site fails.

What to consider

Review lawful data handling, key and access management, retention periods, audit trails and recovery procedures. No single mechanism replaces an overall security policy.
